Assistant Controller

Are you stepping into our shoes as assistant controller? Your future colleague Wendy tells you more about what you can expect from this position and what her experiences are. So read on quickly!

'This a perfect time to step in as assistant controller.'

If there's a perfect time to join Ventura Systems, Wendy says it's now. She should know as Junior Assistant Controller. To better divide the tasks within the financial administration and achieve further professionalisation, we are looking for an Assistant Controller. 'We are currently implementing a new ERP system, taking a fresh look at processes and plotting a future for our department. If you step in now, you can play a valuable role here.' Wendy tells.

Wendy opens the door and welcomes you to this interview to learn about the job, the atmosphere and the challenges.

The formal duties for the position can be found in the job description. According to Wendy, you have enough space to arrange your tasks yourself and there is no set daily rhythm. 'Everyone knows something about everything and we have few specialisms, such as a focus on accounts payable or accounts receivable. We think it is important that we have a broad knowledge and can therefore help each other'. This work is not limited to our office in Bolsward but the department also cooperates a lot with our foreign branches in America, Hong Kong or Australia.

In the position of Assistant Controller, it is important to have good connections with other departments and colleagues. 'Work doesn't just happen behind your desk. By talking to colleagues in person, you will learn more about the processes that lead to financial administration and get a better grip on them. Also, you will learn better what your colleagues would like to see reflected in reports.

'It's a cliché but no day is the same.'

'We interact well as a team. Sometimes a bit stubborn but always sociable.'

With the implementation of new ERP and Exact software, combined with normal business activities, there is plenty going on in the department. Wendy says: 'Within the team, we know how to divide tasks well and help each other when we are busy. The atmosphere is good and we take an interest in each other, which is a strong plus for me at work.

You can really see that we are further professionalising our practices, processes and systems. In the future, we will also focus more on reports, forecasts and other information with which we can provide other departments with an insight into performance. If you step in now as Assistant Controller, you can play an important role in this.'

We are looking for someone who will challenge the status quo with fresh eyes and suggest process improvements, but with a clear, down-to-earth approach that fits well with our culture.

The culture within Ventura is down-to-earth and approachable. We all put our shoulders to the wheel and don't let ourselves go crazy easily. Ventura is a flexible employer where personal situations are taken into account, but room is also given for development. That still appeals to me.' You can find out more about this culture at this page.

What once started small has now grown into a global organisation. We consider ourselves a small, big organisation: short lines of communication and the opportunity for you to actually make a difference and to know everyone; big enough to be a major player in the market and to pay plenty of attention to innovation and your personal development.
